3/4/2015First and for most - if you get these filters pay with a credit card or open their credit card. When you have issues and want them off your house file a complaint with the credit card company and you will be able to get your money back and NOT have to sign their standard nondisclosure agreement.

Essentially leaf filter is a great, highly overpriced device as long as you do not live in an area that has any potential for snow or ice. My experience:Everything seemed fine for the first 2-3 months until the first snow, at which point the leaf filters were completely blocked by the snow and as it melted water ran down the front and back of my gutters then froze.1. Making my gutters completely useless2. Damaging the wooden eves on my home3. Creating an ice flow and hazard in front of every entrance to my homeI contacted leaf filter and received a return phone call from one of their reps who asked me if I needed a lesson in liquids turning solid before I buy things, then told me they would never remove their product. After a few heated emails asking if this is how they normally do business and threatening including their professionalism in an article I was going to post. I was then contacted by one of their managers (Joe R.)After the initial insulting phone experience I refused to speak to anyone from their company over the phone. I chose to only communicate via email so I would have records of all conversations and Joe R called a lot trying not to have anything in writing. Finally Joe R admitted in an email that "ice can form on the system" but at no time during any of our conversations did he offer to remove their ‘system’. Instead I was passed off to their lawyer. What company have you ever heard of that requires a lawyer for a return? A shadey one. Their lawyer, Ryan N, then contacted me with a release that stated I couldn’t contact any agencies like the better business bureau, release them of any responsibility for damage to my home due to the modifications they made to my gutters and could not post any comments, articles etc online or I would be responsible for the entire amount due for the original purchase. The attorney, Ryan N, attempted to intimidate me into a corner in order to get me to sign their nondisclosure agreement but while I kept him talking via email, costing leaf filter money, I contacted the credit card company they opened an account for in my name in order to finance the purchase and filed a complaint asking for a return. After forwarding a summation and photos, a very helpful credit card company took my side and leaf filter had to come take their product off my house, reimburse me what payments I had made and all with out signing their nondisclosure agreement.

LeafFilter Worthless Warranty - LeafFilter North review

We had LeafFilter installed and received a lifetime warranty for the system. Six years later the filter screen pulled away and off of a gutter (see picture).

We have all the paperwork on the installation including the warranty. When we called the installer's business phone, we learned that the person who installed it had moved on, and out of state. We then called the LeafFilter company Customer Service. We were told by a manager that the warranty is only covered by the individual who installed the original system.

If we wanted it repaired with warranty, it would cost $4,000.00 (excessively more than the original installation!) His attitude was take-it-or-leave it!

Do NOT consider LeafFilter. LeafFilter LIFETIME warranty is worthless.

When I had bought the house a couple months ago I noticed that water was overshooting the gutters. At that time Gutter Helmet was already on the house.

I had put in a request into HomeAdvisor.com looking for contractors to fix the issues we were having. I was quickly contacted by LeafFilter. Even though we were not interested in another leaf guard type of product, we listened to what they had to say. The sales person took measurements and went over his sales spiel.

After an hour, I had to interrupt and just say that I wasn't really interested(he was indicating that it would cost around $6K) in a product that wouldn't fix the issues we were having. He then reassured me that it would. He also was trying to sell the idea of how great this micromesh technology is. Even though later on I found out they used different mesh in certain areas.

He stated they also would remove the Gutter Helmet system, clean the gutters and fix any gutter alignment and leaking issues(You can see the contract at the end of the video). I had a quote for essentially the same thing without the LeafFilter system from another contractor for around $300. So after some negotiation, I was able to get that and the filters for a bit under $1000. At that point it seemed reasonable.

During the sales pitch he kept explaining how they use their own employees for installation and it’s all about the quality of the installation. I actually think the crew that came out were subcontractors... Anyway they came out a couple days later. Unfortunately, I was at work so I had to rely on my wife to keep tabs on the installation.

When they were done I told her to check to make sure it looked OK. She did not notice the gutter still hanging the wrong direction and of course couldn't see the areas where the Gutter Helmet came off. The installer did not mention any problems elsewhere. So she went ahead and paid them for the supposed completed job.

They did not leave any card or contact information. When I got home that evening, I immediately saw the dent to the gutter above near the garage area. I forgot to mention that I asked the installer to replace some of the rotten fascia. This was one of those areas that they did that.

This dent is only cosmetic and should not affect the function and the fascia install looked fine. It was then I saw the rear of the house and the pitch of the gutter did not look correct. I thought it may be the angle that I am looking at it. The next couple of days it rained and I thought I would take a peak at how the LeafFilter was working.

To my surprise, what I saw was worse than before this product was installed. In the front of the house, there was now water coming between the gutter and fascia. In the rear water was leaking from the end of the gutter(the one that was pitched wrong) and the corner piece. In addition I was now seeing water dripping through the soffit vents all around the house.

I can only think that it is coming through the shingles where the Gutter Helmet was removed. I took some pictures of these issues but it was night and hard to see. The next day I immediately called the corporate service number(The only number I had was from the contract from the sales person). I was told they would put in a ticket to the local office here in Virginia, which is in Fredericksburg.

A couple days later I was contacted by that office and explained what was going on. They said they would let the installer know(I think his name is Mike) and that he would call me to schedule the appointment. A couple days later when I was at work, the contractor shows up with no call or appointment. I was at work but luckily my wife was home.

She had us Skype and I pointed out some of the issues. He seemed courteous and professional to me. He explained that most of these issues were probably already there and I didn’t notice but that he would take care of it and make it right. He said he would be back the following day when we were expecting rain to see for himself and would be back on the weekend to make the repairs.

Those days come and go and he doesn’t call or show up. The next week, I place another call to the service number to follow up. Once again they said they would let the local office know. They would not give me there number to talk to someone directly.

That was two weeks ago and I have yet to hear back from anyone. We are disappointed in the lack of professionalism and follow through we have received from this company. We are now having other roofing and gutter contractors come take a look and estimate how much it will take to remedy the situation.

At this point, we do not want LeafFilter back to cause more damage. This review is only to notify others that even though a product may be good, if it is not installed properly, it is not a good product.

They rip off subcontractors | LeafFilter North review from Charlotte, North Carolina

Hi There- Pay for LeafFilter subcontractors is based on the quality of work. If there is an issue with a subcontractor's work, he or she is given every opportunity to go back and correct it. We make it a priority to ensure each and every subcontractor is compensated fairly for his or her work.

To : Leaf Filter

5/15/14

On multiple occasions we have been shorted on our pay. (#1) We drove from the Charlotte office and went to Myrtle Beach on a job. We had told leaf filter that it was calling for rain. Our crew drove all the way there and it was pouring down rain the homeowner did not want us to install their job in the rain. Leaf filter told us they would pay us for the extra trip. To this date we have not been paid for this trip. We reminded them every week about this it has been almost 3 months. (#2) We drove from the Charlotte office to Chapin S.C. for a job that needed special skills that only our crew could do. The pay was agreed upon before we went. We got paid that amount. The follow week they deducted over $250.00 from our check from this job refusing to give any reason why the money was taken out of our check. (#3) On that same job in Chapin S.C. we had a service call. We drove all the way down there to find out it had nothing to do with our installation. The salesman did not sell gutter on part of the house that was critical to prevent flooding in the yard. We informed Leaf Filter and the homeowner. Yet we did not get paid for this trip. (#4) We drove from the Charlotte office to Roanoke Va. for a job this job that required a lot of extra work including rotten fascia and the roof was in bad shape. We had to get the extra work approved. Finally after all day it got approved to do. These problems were visually evident. We left and drove back up there the next day. Completed the job and everything seemed to be fine except when we received our check they cut the pay on it. When we confronted the production manager he avoided us. They shorted us over $500.00. In the end after making him mad because we wanted to know why our money was cut on this job the answer we got was they sold the job to low. He refused to show us a copy of our labor bill and gave us his cut up version of it failing to show all the work that was performed. Jobs that are underestimated in the end the money is always cut from the installers the ones that have the most in job. We personally paid for all the materials and labor for the woodwork and Leaf Filter walks away with the check and we get the real short end of the stick. (#5) We drove from the Charlotte office to Clover S.C. for a job that was screwed from the beginning we were the 3rd crew that went out to correct this job they had sold Leaf filter on seemed gutters which are in 10' sections, this should have never been sold like this it needed seamless gutters. They were being shady and unusual about this job; they wanted to hide this from their corporate office. We were given $60.00 by the manager and we were told to go buy gutter coil for this job. Us knowing the pricing of the materials this was only enough to cover half. We put another $60.00 of our own money in it and were told to bring the receipt to be reimbursed. When giving the Manager the receipt he says, “I DO NOT PAY TO COME TO WORK,” and only gave us $40.00 back. But he expects us to pay to come to work. When we ask for a copy of the receipt the production manager said just take it and pulled it out of the trash can. The installer that did this was fired because he refused to go a 2nd time to this job and not get paid. (#6) Leaf filter promises customers that the crew can work in any type of weather rain, sleet, snow, ice , freezing rain and if installer does a job in the rain the gutter sealant will not work it just gets washed out by the rain causing this job to have leaking. They expect the installer to fix this problem at our own expense, when this could have been avoided by avoiding the rain. (#7) This company has claimed being a multi-million dollar company but yet when a job is measured incorrectly or something is left out by a salesman the installers are instructed to call and let them know so any additional work can be approved. We correct our labor bills according to the specifications of the job, but it does not matter because they refuse to pay for any additional work needed done to complete job. I always make it a point to inform them on anything different on the job to make sure we will get paid. They expect us to call right away to let them know of any extra work but when we do they either refuse or just don’t care to change the labor bill and in the end we get screwed. It seems that selective memory loss has run ramped in this company because it is very rare that we get paid for any additional work we do. I just expect to get paid for the work we do. (#8) We turned in labor bill for a job that required fascia repairs; we keep wood on the truck for this reason. The wood was bought 2 or 3 weeks ago so we hand wrote a receipt to get reimbursed for the material used. The production manager said this is a multi-million dollar company we do not accept hand written invoices. 10 minutes later a job came in that was sold, we no paperwork on it yet we were handed a piece of paper hand written with just the address and the footage saying it was south of Spartanburg S.C. when it was actually north of Spartanburg. We drove an hour and half out of our way. (#9) Today May 15, 2014 I informed my production manager that there was tons of rain and thunderstorms in the area we were scheduled to work in. Leaf Filter acts like it’s no big deal being on a ladder 20’ to 40’ off the ground in bad weather. Last time I checked they do not pay my insurance. So in the end I was given an ultimatum, either go down there and fight through the rain or bring your materials back, we don’t need you anymore. So we refused to go because the last time we went to a job and could not do it we ate the cost of the first trip. I was told by my production manager that the rain would clear out by the time we got down there which was a lie. The estimated time of arrival was the same time that there was the most chance of rain and would last into the afternoon. Keep in mind this would have been a 4 and half hour trip. Round trip would have been 9 hours. (#10) At this current moment Leaf Filter is holding $1200.00 in retainage and also owing us money cut from our checks totaling over $1500.00. We have addressed this issue several times and nothing has been done about it. This company is big on double standards. Their mission statement should say. We will step on crush or eliminate anyone in our way of getting to the bank. We do our very best to do the job right the first time. These are the main issues we have. We can provide all specific documentations for these related issues. All this company cares about is getting their money and forcing their installers to work in terrible weather conditions. It’s money first, safety and realism comes last.

We do not recommend this product. - LeafFilter North review

Pricing issue

Leaf Filter Telemarketing would not stop calling until I scheduled an estimate. The sales representative came out late since the original estimator called in sick.

The quote came out to $42.00 per linear foot. Maybe $300 dollars in material and about $1,600 in labor. I think that works out to about $800 per hour in labor. Wow, I want to open a business that makes that amount per hour.

The representative was very polite, but kept on trying to get me to sign an agreement to have the work done.

This looks like a product and service with a very expensive cost.

Leaf filter tells you they will not mess with your roof will my shingles are lifted up off the roof because it was installed wrong. So they came back out.

I should have checked their work after they came back out because he lied to me about fixing everything. I just had to fix the leaf filter in the backyard. I have also been picking up all the screws in the yard and driveway that they did not clean up. I will make it clear to everyone I know not to do business with this company.

your company does half *** work and should not be in business for as much as you charge. Nothing but Glorified scam artist.
